Chicago’s Hedge Fund Industry Holds Seventh Annual Benefit to Save Children

Chicago’s Hedge Fund  Industry Holds Seventh Annual Benefit to Save Children

Held under the magnificent Louis Comfort Tiffany art glass dome at the Chicago Cultural Center, the seventh annual Midwest Open Your Hearts to the Children Benefit, held on May 20th, 2009, was a fundraising and networking success.  More than 300 guests attended and helped raise over $550,000 for the Midwest chapter of Hedge Funds Care. The event, co-chaired by Ron Suber of Merlin Securities and Jeremie Bacon of Backstop Solutions, showed that the industry remains very committed to the treatment and prevention of child abuse.
“The Hedge Fund community looks forward to this annual gathering and fundraising effort,” said Bacon.  Added Suber, “Our industry has faced challenges over this past year, but the children need us even more in these economic times.”
The evening program included a speaker, Ms. Dora Garcia, from Teen Parent Connection, one of the Midwest Grantee agencies that focuses on prevention of child abuse. Ms.Garcia spoke honestly and emotionally about her struggles as a teenager raising a daughter on her own, and provided a compelling example of how successful prevention activities can ensure both the protection of children as well as healthy family practices for future generations.
The Midwest chapter of Hedge Funds Cares will continue its mission with its upcoming Fourth Annual Texas Hold ‘em Tournament on June 25, 2009.  For additional information on events, donations, sponsorship, grants or participation, go to www.HedgeFundsCare.org/midwest.
