Hedge Funds Care (HFC) is proud to be the only business group solely devoted to combating child abuse, and in nine years has made a powerful contribution to saving children. Established in 1998, we are an alliance of hedge fund industry professionals committed to protecting our children from abuse and neglect. We invite you to join our group of money managers, investors, prime brokers, attorneys, accountants and information providers to raise funds through annual Open Your Heart to the Children Benefits in New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Atlanta, Boston, Denver, Toronto, London and the Cayman Islands. Funds are distributed locally to community based nonprofit organizations. These organizations provide prevention services to children and families who are at-risk for abuse and/or neglect, and treatment to children who have been victims of abuse.
Because of the shame associated with child abuse, it remains a dramatically under-resourced and rarely discussed problem. However, the maltreatment of children is a national tragedy with staggering financial and social costs that extend far beyond broken bones and damaged psyches. The children most at risk for abuse are under the age of three, but the trauma continues throughout adulthood. Children who are abused and neglected are more likely to abuse drugs and alcohol as teenagers and adults, suffer from mental illness, and become involved with the criminal justice system. The price tag for this suffering costs the United States upward of $24 billion each year.
Did you know that in 2003 there were over three million investigations of reported incidents of abuse involving five and a half million children? More than 900,000 of those cases were indicated or confirmed. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services estimates that the actual number of children who experience some form of abuse each year is several times higher! Family members and victims are generally not strong advocates, so financial support of specialized programs is primarily left to shrinking government grants. They need our help! Please join our rapidly growing initiative; together we can combat child abuse and give each child the chance to succeed.
